A Lifelong Commitment to Service

From his early days of community volunteering to his rigorous academic pursuit in Political Science and law, Matt has always been driven by a deep passion for public service.

His legal career spans over a decade as an attorney within the judicial system and public bodies, where he has tirelessly worked to bridge the disparities faced by underserved communities and administer justice and equality under the law.

Advocacy Beyond the Courtroom

Matt’s dedication extends to every corner of Champaign County. As a proud graduate of the United Way of Champaign County’s Emerging Community Leaders Class of 2019, a former President of the Young Professionals of Champaign-Urbana, and a participant in the United Way’s 2021 Equity Challenge, he leads by example, fostering leadership and supporting minority-owned businesses.

Matt continued his commitment to Champaign County by serving on the Champaign Citizen Review Subcommittee, including a term as Chair.

Matt celebrates recent successes like the downtown jail closure while addressing ongoing challenges such as budget constraints, unemployment, and ethical concerns of government officials. He is committed to maintaining positive Democratic governance improvements that have already begun shaping a better future for our county.
